Cllr Lynette Barnes OBE

LPBarnes OBE

“It is a privilege to serve the people of Ripon and in particular to represent Spa Ward as  Conservative councillor.

I have a long association with the City as my grandparents and parents lived in the area and I grew up in Grewelthorpe

I did my nurse training in London and Harrogate and served in the Princess Mary’s Royal Air Force Nursing Service.  After I married I lived in a number of places both in England and overseas. I have two daughters and two grandchildren.

Latterly I served as a Director of the Council for Voluntary Service for 25 years and the wider Voluntary Service in North Yorkshire for 34 years.

On retirement I stood for election because I felt that I could continue to offer the experience gained during my career for the benefit of the people of Ripon.

Not only did my experience give me a knowledge of the wide range of support offered by the voluntary sector, but I was also involved with strategic planning and partnership working with Local Authorities.  I worked with North Yorkshire County Council, Harrogate Borough Council, the Police and Fire Service, The Primary Health Care Trust, the Hospitals and General Practitioners and Statutory Services.

More importantly, I was involved with helping individuals who had problems and difficulties and worked with them to help to find solutions and much needed assistance.

I am a strong believer in an inclusive community and I believe that Ripon is a very special place. I am proud of its traditions and the dignity that the City Council maintains, but I also believe we should look to the present and the future to ensure the City prospers.

We need to care for everyone, including the young and old, we need to support our schools and help our shops, businesses and organisations to thrive to ensure that Ripon continues to be a special place to live.

Please contact me, I am interested in hearing your views, both good and bad, it is only by knowing what you thinking that we can truly represent you.

Ripon City Council’s powers and resources are limited but  its most important function is to ensure that the collective views of the residents are represented and put forward at all levels of government and planning and that we work together to find solutions to problems.”
