Ripon City Council would like to announce that the Mayor elect for the forthcoming year is Councillor Adrian Morgan. The decision was made last night, on 29th February 2016, at an informal meeting of all Councillors. Councillor Morgan has served as Deputy to this year’s Mayor, Councillor Pauline McHardy, who will continue in the role until May.
Elected to Ripon City Council in 2015, Councillor Morgan represents the Moorside Ward. He has subsequently chaired the Hugh Ripley Hall committee and has been actively involved in many aspects of the Council’s work over the past year.
Commenting on his selection, Councillor Morgan said: “I am delighted to be nominated by Ripon City Councillors in the selection for the position of Mayor. My wife, Robina and I are looking forward to representing the City this year.
I hope I can promote greater harmony between Councillors and deliver what we promised to residents in the election to make Ripon a better place in which to live.”
He is proud to have lived in Ripon for the last 46 years, and is well known in the City having run a successful dentistry practice for many years. Prior to this he had served as a jet pilot at RAF Leeming where he met his wife Robina. Councillor Morgan is a keen proponent of the railway line through Ripon and has campaigned for its reinstatement since 1987.
The Annual Mayor Making Ceremony will take place this year on Tuesday 3rd May as part of the Annual Meeting of the Council. This will be followed on Sunday 8th May with a service at the Cathedral as part of the Freedom weekend celebrations when Councillor Morgan will officially be installed as Mayor of the City.
A further announcement will be made in due course about the position of Deputy Mayor.
